Webroot Antivirus with AntiSpyware 6.0 is a well-developed anti-virus application.
It offers users comprehensive anti-virus protection and a wide range of features that are usually only found
in the higher-priced Internet security suites. This includes the on-line file backup as well as compatibility

In addition, the product is well supported. Customer support was very easy to
access and we were happy to see phone support offered for no additional charge. When you add that to the
fact that the product is backed by a money-back guarantee, it's not hard to see why so many people are turning

BitDefender Antivirus 2010
BitDefender Antivirus 2010 was all that we expected it to be. Although installation
did take a little longer than we anticipated but it was not overly burdensome. It provides
users with enough options to satisfy advanced users while at the same time is simple enough
that it can be used right after install with no configuration required. As far as its ability to
protect it did manage to catch numerous threats on our computer and prevented several more from even
making it onto our PC.
- Instant Message Encryption
- Variable Power Settings
- Network Protection
Customer service for this product is better than most. All the questions
that we had were answered in timely and in polite manners.
The only facet that we felt was a letdown was the knowledge base which,
to us, seemed to be very short on the amount of information available.
BitDefender Antivirus 2010 is a great product with a competitive price tag.
It offers something for everyone in regards to customization and usability. Overall we have to
say this software is a good choice for all users and would make a good addition to the protection
of any personal computer.
BitDefender gets a Grade of a B+.

CA Anti-Virus Plus 2010
CA Anti-Virus Plus 2010 gives computer users the ability to protect their
computers from not only viruses but also from spyware and other related threats. Overall the this
program installed well, though it does seem to cause a little bit of lag. We did, however, feel that it is a good
trade off for having some form of virus and spyware protection. This software seems more than capable
of handling most threats to a user's computer.
- Virus and Spyware Protection
- Automatic Updating
- Custom Scanning
Our experience with the customer service aspect of this program was, for the most part, a satisfying one.
We appreciated the easy to use FAQ pages and the prompt responses that we received from our on-line tech
chat and email queries. But, we did take exception to the fact that phone support does cost money.
Other than that CA Anti-Virus Plus CA Anti-Spyware 2010 is a great program for a beginning
user and although we feel that expert users will be disappointed with the lack of options and customization.
It is hard not to think that most people would be happy with its ease of use.
CA Anti-Virus Plus AS 2010 earned a B.

McAfee VirusScan Plus 2010
McAfee VirusScan Plus 2010 is a solid contender in the anti-virus market. Its
ability to find and remove threats was definitely above par. It turned out to be one of the
better products that we came across.
- Web Page Safety Ratings
- Fast Scanning
- Firewall Protection
McAfee VirusScan Plus 2010 also shines in the area of providing
extra perks to the user. This is evidenced by the file shredding utility as well as the personal firewall
that comes with the program. Customer support, while not entirely comprehensive, does seem to be able to help
with most any problems that may be encountered by the casual user. In this sense the service is fairly good,
despite the inability to make phone contact right away.
Overall we found the software to function well.
It removed the threats that it encountered and it provides a few extra perks as well.
This together with adequate customer service can make this program a good choice for many users.
We gave McAfee Anti-Virus a B.

Norton Antivirus 2010
Norton AntiVirus 2010 has improved by leaps and bounds in regards to the options and
functionality of their software. We really did appreciate the smaller program size and the increase
in the number of features presented. We also were impressed with the ability of this program to catch
and eliminate a large variety of computer threats. On the down side we tend to think that the user
interface while familiar and easy to use could use a new look to go along with the improved software.
- Updates Via Pulse Technology
- Automatic Scans
- Smart Scanning
As far as customer service is concerned we were happy to see the free phone support was available with
this version but were disappointed with the quality of the responses that were given. We also took exception with the on-line
FAQ that seems to be a bit scary itself given the amount of data that is present. Ultimately, there is a lot of work to be
done by Norton to bring this aspect up to par with its competition.
In the larger sense Norton AntiVirus is a good
product that offers its users a great amount of features that make a good anti-virus product great and in this regard
Norton AntiVirus 2010 comes out shining. Nevertheless, if you are expecting to get the best
in customer service you may have to hold your breath as they have yet to find
parity between their customer service and the quality of their software.
Norton earns a B Grade!

ESET NOD 32 3.0
Using ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 was a better experience then we expected. Installation was
clean and simple. The user interface was much better than previous versions and made the software
much easier to navigate for new users and advanced users alike.
- Intelligent Virus Detection
- Faster Operation
- Improved Interface
ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 performed admirably in the removal of many threats
that were on our computer and seemed to be able to stop new ones from gaining a hold on our systems. All in all
a good virus protection software.
Our foray into the customer service portion of this product while full
of information was somewhat scrambled. All the possible information that we needed seemed to be present but
searching for what exactly we needed felt like a chore. This coupled with the lack of readily accessible phone
support did leave something to be desired. Though again the information is there it is just a matter of finding
what exactly you need.
ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 is an excellent anti-virus program that appears
to be quite effective. Navigation is much more simplified and caters to both the new and advanced user. The only
piece that is lacking is good phone support for problem troubleshooting. Although even this can be bypassed
considering the amount of information that is available on the product site.
We think that ESET NOD 32 3.01 deserves C+ Grade!

Disclaimer: A small component of product placement within our reviews is percentage of revenue share from the product vendor. This percentage is not the whole factor in determining rankings but a small portion of the ranking algorithm we use to determine order based on our results from in-depth testing and reviews.
Install antivirus software, update regularly, and use it regularly
Do regular backups. If you contract a virus it may be the only way to recover your data. Ideally, you should backup your entire system on a regular basis, however if this is not practical, at least backup files that you can’t afford to lose or that would be difficult to replace: documents, bookmark files, address books, important emails, etc.
When possible, avoid e-mail attachments both when sending and receiving e-mail.
Never open email attachments with the file extensions VBS, SHS, or PIF. These extensions are almost never used in normal attachments but they are frequently used by viruses and worms.
Never open attachments with double file extensions such as NAME.BMP.EXE or NAME.TXT.VBS.
Disconnect your network or modem cable when you’re not using your computer-or just power it down
If you feel that an e-mail you get from a friend is strange (if it is a foreign language or it just says odd things) double check with the friend before opening any attachments
When you receive e-mail advertisements or unsolicited e-mail, do not open attachments
Avoid attachments with sexual file names
Do not trust the icons of attachment file. Worms often use executable files which have an icon resembling icons of picture, text, or archive files to fool the user
Never accept attachments from strangers in online chat systems such as IRC, ICQ, or AOL Instant Messenger
Avoid using floppies to exchange information between computers
